Dot Neal   Head Secretary. "Historian for the CAPS Unit."
 

Betsy Allen   Secretary. Ms. Allen joined CAPS in June 1998.  She is a native of New Orleans, LA, but has also resided in San Antonio, TX; Vicksburg, MS; Goose Bay, Labrador; Nimes, France; and Sterling, VA.  She is married and has one child.  

Connie Miller   Secretary. Ms. Miller joined CAPS in Fall 2002.  


CAPS Clinical Staff: Senior Clinicians.

Jonathan Perry, Ph.D. Director & Clinical Psychologist.
Dr. Perry is a native Arkansan and a clinical psychologist who is licensed in both Arkansas and New York. He coordinates "the whole damn bunch" of CAPS staff members. Areas of clinical interest to Dr. Perry include depression, self-concept, spirituality and mental health, and adult development. Several research areas of interest to Dr. Perry are psychotherapy outcome, mental health program administration and the psychology of art, especially music and creativity.

Pornthip Chalungsooth, Ed.D., LPC, CADC Licensed Professional Counselor & Coordinator of Substance Abuse Treatment.
Dr. Chalungsooth (or simply Dr. PC) is a licensed professional counselor in the state of Arkansas. She also holds  an advanced certification in alcohol and drugs counseling in Arkansas. Her areas of interests include cross-cultural issues, trangender issues, and substance abuse. Her theoretical approach inclines toward Rational-Emotive Behavior Therapy.

Josette Cline, Ph.D. Counseling Psychologist & Coordinator of Training.
Dr. Cline joined CAPS part-time in Fall 2000 after completing her training in Counseling Psychology at Indiana University and her clinical internship with both the Veterans' Administration Medical Center in Northern California and the University of California-Davis Department of Psychiatry. She re-joined CAPS as a full-time staff member in November 2001. Her clinical interests include the treatment of trauma and its effects--e.g., childhood physical and sexual abuse, sexual assault (including rape), and domestic violence. Other clinical interests include working with individuals struggling with relationship and interpersonal issues. Dr. Cline is also interested in advocacy work on behalf of psychology in the state of Arkansas, participating in primarily legislative advocacy activities through the Arkansas Psychological Association.

Connie Grubesich, M.S.W., LCSW Licensed Clinical Social Worker & Coordinator of Group Services.
Ms. Grubesich has more than 25 years of counseling experience with individuals, groups, couples and families. Her areas of special clinical interest include relationship issues, identity issues, depression, anxiety, couples' therapy, group therapy, non-traditional students' issues, and eating disorders. As Groups Coordinator, she provides information about CAPS groups to the University Community. Research on eating disorders is an area of special interest to Ms. Grubesich.

J. Judd Harbin, Ph.D.   Counseling Psychologist & Coordinator of Research & Data Management
Dr. Harbin completed a B.S. (cum laude) in Psychology at Birmingham-Southern College (1992) and earned both an M.S. (1995) and Ph.D. (1998) in Counseling Psychology at the University of Southern Mississippi after internship at Iowa State University. His clinical interests include anxiety, stress reduction, and the impacts of prejudice and discrimination especially with regard to race, affectional orientation, and spirituality. Research interests include program evaluation, supervision, and prejudice. For 2002, Dr. Harbin serves as Treasurer of the Psychologists of Northwest Arkansas. He is also a faculty advisor for People Respecting Individual Differences & Equality (PRIDE). He enjoys coffee, singing, cooking, running, and the outdoors.

Cece H. Hilliard, L.M.S.W.   Mental Health Clinician & Coordinator of Anger Management Program
Ms Hilliard interned at CAPS between August 2001 and May 2002. In November 2002, she rejoined CAPS as a senior clinician.  She completed her B.A. in Social Work at the University of Arkansas and earned a Masters in Social Work at the University of Arkansas-Little Rock.  Her special clinical interests include anger management, domestic violence, and depression.  She developed the CAPS anger management program and has experience working with individuals, groups, and businesses.  She enjoys walking/hiking, reading, cross-stitch, and eating chocolate.

Denise A. Litterer, M.S.  Counseling Psychologist & Coordinator of Outreach.
Dr. Litterer completed a B.A. in Psychology at the University of Northern Iowa (1995) and earned both an M.S. (1997) and a Ph.D. (2001) in Counseling Psychology at Iowa State University after internship at Southern Illinois University.  Her clinical interests include treatment of eating disorders, body image, sexual abuse and trauma, grief and loss, stress management, and gay, lesbian, and bisexual issues.  Research interests include eating disorders and bereavement after the death of a loved one and after the break up of a romantic relationship.  She enjoys walking, baking, reading, and spending time with her dogs.

Rusty Pang, M.D. Psychiatric Consultant.
Dr. Pang provides consultation with CAPS clients on a part-time basis. He has a private practice located in Fayetteville. He received his B.A. (magna cum laude) in Psychology at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and his M.D. at University of Arkansas Medical School. He completed a residency in psychiatry at the Maine Medical Center. Dr. Pang is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, and he is a past president of the Washington County Medical Society. In 1996, the Arkansas Times survey of 1000 Arkansas physicians awarded Dr. Pang honorable mention in the categories of adult psychiatry, depression, anxiety and eating disorders. Dr. Pang's areas of clinical interest include the integration of psychopharmacology with psychotherapy (brief, cognitive-behavioral, psychodynamic, and long-term).

Stephanie Porterfield, Ph.D. Counseling Psychologist & Medical Liaison.
Dr. Porterfield completed a B.A. (cum laude) in Psychology with a minor in Sociology at the University of Tulsa (1995). She earned an M.S. in Counseling Psychology at the University of Kansas (1998) and a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology at Oklahoma State University (2001). Her clinical interests include relationship issues, depression, stress/anxiety, and multicultural counseling. Research interests include health psychology areas such as prescription privileges for psychologists, consultative relationships between psychologists and psychiatrists, and the psychological impact of genetic predictive testing. She enjoys watching reality TV shows, shoe shopping, football, and cooking.

Gregory R. Schneller, Ph.D. Counseling Psychologist & Coordinator of Assessment.
Dr. Schneller provides individual, couple, group, and family therapy. He is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology. Dr. Schneller has special interest in psychological testing, group treatment of depression, promoting healing from sexual abuse or trauma, and couple/marital therapy. Research areas of interest are marital satisfaction and communication, provision of volunteer services by psychologists, and assessing satisfaction with psychotherapy. As Assessment Coordinator, Dr. Schneller maintains and updates CAPS testing materials, promotes the use of psychological testing to improve self-understanding, and provides information to the University community about CAPS testing services.

CAPS Clinical Staff: Graduate Clinicians

During the Fall and Spring semester, graduate students from Clinical Psychology, Clinical Social Work, and Counselor Education intern with Counseling & Psychological Services. During their placement, they provide individual, couples, and group therapy as well as presentations and workshops.

Amy Abraham, M.S. Ms. Abraham is originally from Louisiana and holds a Master of Science degree in Experimental Psychology from the University of Louisiana--Lafayette. She is currently a third-year graduate student in clinical psychology at the University of Arkansas. Her clinical interests include working with individuals with eating disorders and body image concerns, mood disorders, and relationship issues.

Cristy Akins, B.S. Ms. Akins completed a B.A. (cum laude) in Psychology and a B.S. (cum laude) in Biology at Arkansas Tech University in Russellville, Arkansas (1998). She is currently enrolled in the Clinical Psychology Ph.D program at the University of Arkansas. Her clinical and research interests include impulsive disorders, trauma, and interventions with children and families.

John Fishburne, B.A. Mr. Fishburne is in his 3rd year of doctoral training at the university.  His research interests include issues surrounding college drinking.  Specifically, showing students that the social pressures we all feel to drink are exagerated in our own minds, and therefore, its ok to drink less.  He enjoys working with couples and relationship issues, stressing communication and emotional expression.
