of
Inky or Sonny
Inky Sonny's Mom, family cat.  She was solid black.
Sonny (1969-1972)Sonny was my first cat.  I was about 3 or 4 when Inky had the litter of kittens on the back porch.  Mom named him. He was solid black; Sue got his brother, Blackberry, who was black with a white spot on his belly.  I used to dress Sonny up in these clothes I had made from old pieces of cloth; I called them Sonny's Rags.  He disappeared on Thanksgiving Day.
Benjamin
Benjamin (1972-1989) Benji was most loved cat.  He was smarter than most people; he was reading philosophy textbooks when he was just a kitten.  He was half siamese.  I got him at the pet store for $4 when I was six years old.  I began carrying him draped over my shoulder when I was little so that he could watch out behind us for ghosts and we always did this until he got old and had arthritis.  He loved to hunt and ate lots of rabbits and birds.  He could catch two mice at once and play with them both before he ate them.  He lived to be 17.  Ben went everywhere with me; we grew up together.
Joni
Joni (1970-1982) Joni was a dog, actually.  I got her when I was four; she was the only dog I ever had.  She was half German Shepherd and half ??Calahoola?? Hound.  She used to help Dad herd the cows.  She would hang out at the pond with me and the cats. She loved Benjamin and Mish, and I think they would have agreed to make her an honorary cat.
Mish
Mish (1971-1978) Mish was actually Sue's cat, but after she moved to Hawaii in 1977, I took care of him.  He was a very loving cat, very nice and gentle, probably the sweetest cat that ever existed.  He was a lilac point Siamese.
Poncho
Poncho (1987-1993) Poncho and Lefty were brother and sister.  I got them at the same time.  Poncho was a very sweet cat and shy with strangers.  We were very close; we used to go for walks together down the railroad track.  She liked french fries better than hamburger.
Lefty
Lefty (1987-19--) Lefty was an awesome cat.  He was Poncho's brother, but he was very different from her.  He was very friendly with everyone he met.  His right front leg was run over by a paint truck when he was a kitten, but it healed fine (we had already named him).  He would tuck the bum leg under him and run up the front steps, slipping and banging his chin on the steps as he went. He liked taking baths and having his fur blowdried.  He disappeared one day...
Mean One
Mean One (1992--) I got Mean One from Stephen's mom and dad.  Mean One disappeared when he was still a kitten.  He was very playful...
Kampf
Kampf (1987--) Kampf was a stray cat that lived in an old stove in the back yard one winter when he was still a kitten, eating the food scraps I threw out.  He was (is?) a very sweet, gentle cat, just very, very filthy; he never seemed to learn to clean himself up.  He was wild at first, but soon became friendly.  He went to live with other people after a couple of years; I don't know what he's up to these days.
Elizabeth
Elizabeth (1991-October 9, 1998) I called her Wizbef.  She was born in the thicket on Gregg Street beside our house. She started running in the house in the summer when the doors were open and stealing food from Mean One's dish. I trapped her in the kitchen one day and petted her. After that, she began moving in and then Mean One disappeared and Elizabeth became our cat. She was a very smart and wonderful cat.  She wanted nothing more than to lay in my lap as much as possible; she would complain if I got up and she would hang on with her claws and growl.  She liked tobacco, but not catnip.  She liked to chew on the end of a cigarette. She would stick out her tongue if you patted her on the back above her tail. She is buried in the garden.

Elizabeth's first litter
Elizabeth's second litter
Elizabeth's Kittens (born 1993) Elizabeth had two litters of kittens that summer, two in each litter.  She didn't seem to like the second litter very much.  Wild Thing from the first litter took care of them most of the time.  I gave away eight of the kittens.  I know Paul's cat, Tiberius, was doing well last I heard.  Two, Wild Thing and Callie, the calico, were run over.
Wild Thing
Wild Thing (1993-1994) He would come when I called him, but I had to call his name like in the song.  WIIIILD THANG!  Wild Thing was in the first litter of kittens that Elizabeth had that summer.  He helped with the second litter; actually he did everything but nurse them.
Blackie, Wallace, and Macabee
Blackie, Wallace, and Macabee (Gary's and Mom's cats)  Blackie was very cool; he could talk.  He liked for me to pound on him.  Macabee was afraid of everyone but Gary.  Wallace lived with Gary until 2000.  He was very shy.  Mom and Gary got them from the Humane Society.
Boat Kittens
Boat Kittens (found April, 1998) Terry found three baby kittens in his boat while fishing.  We had to feed them with bottles for a couple of weeks.  Rowdy is gray, Tiger is striped, and Blackie is black and white.  We gave them away to a friend and her brother and his landlady.
Kitty Cat
Kitty Cat (19??--) The cat who lives with me now, since October 1998.  She is solid white.  She lived for a couple of years in a truck shop; the guys there thought she was about two years old in 1998.  When the shop closed down, we took her.  She is very loving, but also very mean.  She plays very rough and kills lots of rabbits and other animals.  She has gotten more gentle since we've had her.  She bites easy on my hands now, but still hasn't learned that bare feet hurt, too, when she bites and claws them.  She likes to build sculptures on the floor with her catfood.  She moves her water dish up to the food and paws the water onto the dry food to make a sculpting medium.  She also likes to set her water dish on top of the plate of food.  She likes to ride on my shoulder.  She purrs a lot.  She likes cookie dough and Pringles. She always comes when I call her (unless she's out too far).  She stretches all the time, especially in anticipation of being fed.  Sometimes I call her Stretch.
