Due to conflicts with the University of Arkansas' Homecoming Activities, the traditional Veteran's Day Parade was in jeopardy. We are happy to let you know that the UofA Alumni Association invited the Veteran's Day parade to join with the Homecoming Parade. The parade proceeded down Dickson St. in Fayetteville with the Veteran's Day parade leading the rest of the parade.
Given the recent attacks on America, the theme of this year's Veteran's Day activities expanded a bit. This year, we included other groups of people that we felt represented the same level of sacrifice and commitment to the protection of the American Way. Local fire fighters, law enforcement, and EMS groups were included in our salute. The Salvation Army, Red Cross, and local blood banks also deserved special recognition at the time. They were recognized at all events and also served in a special role in a HUGE combined color guard that lead the parade on Friday.
Other events for the weekend included a USO/Canteen Dance (Korean War 50th Anniversary Gala) at the Arkansas Air Museum. The Jack Mitchell Big Band and the Catz Meow will kept us entertained.
Then, the Community Blood Bank set up out front of the Fayetteville Town Center to take donations prior to the United in Sacrifice - Our Foundation of Freedom concert. The concert was presented by the Ozark Mountain British Brass Band and was a stirring patriotic salute to America and its Veterans.
