Fayetteville (Arkansas) Animal Shelter and Animal Services

1640 Armstrong
Fayetteville, AR 72701
444-3456

The Animal Services Division of the City of Fayetteville is committed to bettering the quality of life for the citizens of our city and for the animals which share our lives. We enforce the laws, rescue lost or mistreated or injured animals, work toward the goal of ending the serious overpopulation by encouraging spaying and neutering, educate citizens about responsible pet ownership. An officer is on duty 24 hours a day to assist in any emergency. If you have questions, we are happy to try to answer them for you, and will assist you in any way that we can under the law.

The Fayetteville Animal Shelter and Animal Services are supported by the City of Fayetteville and are dedicated to the welfare of animals and the people who associate with them. Washington County as well as several communities in the county have agreements with Fayetteville for sheltering or euthanasia. Although the two organizations cooperate, there is no connection between the Fayetteville Animal Shelter and the Humane Society of the Ozarks. The Humane Society of the Ozarks, well-known for its many fundraisers, does not operate a shelter.

To bring in or surrender an animal to the Shelter, please make an appointment to make sure there will be room available. It is necessary to keep space for strays picked up or for quarantine in case of bites.

Animals may be adopted upon application, approval, and payment of a $50 fee. The fee covers spaying or neutering (usually done before the animal leaves the shelter), rabies and other shots, and an initial visit to a participating veterinarian.

Visitors are welcome during regular hours. The Betty Lighton Education Room is available for individuals to read or see videotapes about animals, as well as for groups. To set up a talk, tour of the Shelter, or educational program, please call the Shelter.

Regular hours are 10:00 am to 5:30 pm Monday through Friday, 12:00 noon to 4:00 pm Saturday. Telephone (501) 444-3456.
