People who qualify include senior citizens, disabled people, and those with a terminal illness. These are all people who can particularly benefit from a companion animal. The people need to apply and be approved for adoption just like anyone else, but the $50 adoption fee is waived.

The adoption fee can be waived because in order to qualify for the program, the animal must already be spayed or neutered. Since the adoption fee covers the cost of spaying or neutering, an animal who has already had the surgery saves the Shelter this expense, so that the fee can be waived.

This is one more way the Shelter can save the life of an animal while improving the quality of life of a human--a win-win situation!
