Numbers:
- Approximately 770 animals were given rabies vaccinations at rabies
clinics during 2001.
- The Shelter lost its veterinarian in 2001. Shelter adoptees have not
been spayed or neutered in the Shelter's clinic for most of the year.
Instead, a voucher agreement program with area veterinarians has been in
effect. Of the 606 animals adopted in 2001, 357 have been spayed or
neutered; 147 were adopted out in the fourth quarter and vouchers had not
yet been received or the animals were too young to be sterilized.
Seventeen animals were rabbits, hamsters, iquanas, ducks, and ferrets.
Forty-three animals adopted out had already been spayed or neutered by
previous owners.
- During much of 2001 the City searched for a Veterinarian/Director,
with no lasting success.
