  6. Participation for at least one semester in an approved educational experience in a major urban center. (See Off-Campus Study Requirement, page 161.)

To become candidates for entry into the School of Architecture professional program at the second-year level, students must have completed 30 hours of the above pre-professional general education work, including those courses marked with an asterisk (*) or their equivalent from another institution. (ENVD 1211, 1221, 1015, and 1025 must be completed in this School of Architecture unless accepted from another NAAB-accredited School of Architecture.)

Entry into the professional program is limited and based upon cumulative grade-point average of pre-professional work accepted toward degree credit. See "Admission to the Professional Program," page 151.

NOTE: The hours of any required course from which a student has been exempted will be added to the free elective requirement. No more than 4 hours of physical education and/or R.O.T.C. may be counted toward a degree. Courses not acceptable toward degree credit include those of a remedial or orientation nature and those whose content is considered to be measurably duplicated elsewhere in the curriculum. ENGL 3003 is not counted toward degree credit.

By following the preceding curriculum, students will meet the state-mandated University Core Requirements. We require that transfer students present a minimum of one semester of physics (with laboratories) and strongly recommend a second course in physics as fulfillment of the science requirement in the State Minimum Core. See University Core Requirements on page 56. Physics is preparatory to architectural structures courses; students presenting other science will be handicapped in these courses.
