Residence Regulations

Individual students must comply with living group policies as set by floor and hall governments, as well as with University regulations.

RIGHT OF PRIVACY IN UNIVERSITY HOUSING

Residents of University housing are entitled to reasonable privacy in their residence hall rooms or apartments. However, apartments or residence hall rooms may be entered, under specific protective guidelines, in case of emergency; for maintenance, including pest control; for safety inspections; or when it is believed that a violation of the law or a serious breach of University regulations or policies has occurred.

GUEST REGULATIONS

A person visiting a student is responsible for following the regulations of the living unit the person is visiting. The host or hostess is responsible for informing the guest of all regulations, both of that living unit and of the University and will be held responsible for the guest's behavior.

VISITATION HOURS

Residents are permitted to have guests of the opposite sex visit their rooms according to the University visitation policy.

1. Specific visitation hours must be prominently posted to inform residents and guests of the visitation hours in the living unit.

2. Gregson, Holcombe, and Futrall halls have 24-hour visitation privileges, seven days a week.

3. Gibson, Yocum, Buchanan-Droke, and Gladson-Ripley have 24-hour visitation on Friday and Saturday nights only. Sunday through Thursday visitation hours in these halls begins at 8:00 a.m. and ends at 2:00 a.m..

4. Pomfret, Humphreys, and Reid halls have visitation hours of 8:00 a.m.-2:00 a.m., Sunday through Thursday, and 8:00 a.m.-3:00a.m. on weekends.

5. Residence halls have electronic card reader access 24 hours a day. Visitors may gain entry to a building by using the house phone at the entrance and contacting a resident to escort them, or by calling the hall office to obtain information on entry. Guests must be escorted by a resident in the building 24 hours a day.

6. Regular University judicial procedures will be employed to deal with violations of University regulations and living unit policies.

CAMPUS SECURITY

The security system operation within University residence halls and fraternity and sorority houses provides adequate security for residents of a particular living unit.

All University-affiliated residence halls participate in the campus security system.

Residence Hall Security

1. All residence halls are equipped with 24-hour electronic card access security systems.

2. Night desk operators are on duty in-hall from 12:00 p.m. - 8:00 a.m. nightly and the building perimeters are patrolled by security rovers during the same hours.

3. Non-duplicable metal room keys are issued to residents by Residence Life and Dining Services upon check-in. Any additional keys must be authorized and ordered by Residence Life and Dining Services through the Physical Plant.

4. Each resident must participate in an information session at the beginning of each semester to be informed of the security system.

5. Propping exterior doors is strictly prohibited and will result in disciplinary action.

6. It is the responsibility of each resident to use the entry and security system correctly and to prevent non-residents from following behind them into the building.

Greek Houses

1. Fraternities and sororities are expected to develop and maintain their own compre-hensive security system for the safety of residents and guests.

2. Fraternities and sororities may use the University's non-duplicate key system as an alternative or combination key code kept with UAPD.

3. Fraternities and sororities may have UAPD check their houses over extended breaks and during the summer. They must contact the Greek Affairs Office for the proper forms.

Hosts in participating living units, as well as their guests who are subject to the juris-diction of the University judiciary, may be referred to the appropriate judicial board for an infraction of the rules of the security system. Violators who are not students will be referred to local authorities.

DINING HALL REGULATIONS

While in Residence Hall dining areas, students must comply with all regular University regulations and Dining Service Policies posted or published in The Resident Handbook. University judicial procedures will be employed to deal with violations of these regulations.
