MAJOR REQUIREMENTS 30

REQUIRED FOR DEGREE 126

In addition to the core courses, each student will complete the required major courses, junior/senior business electives, and electives specified by each major.

Each student must have a 2.00 cumulative grade-point average in each of the following areas: all work completed at this University, all courses specifically designated for the major, all required College of Business Administration core and economics courses. Students may not present more than six hours of "D" grades in the pre-business core courses.

3In addition, each student must satisfy the Junior English Requirement (see page 60).

4Pre-business core requirement.

5College Algebra, MATH 1203, or an appropriate score on the math placement test is a prerequisite for entry into the required math courses. The State Board of Higher Education has granted institutions the authority to require students majoring in business to take "higher mathematics" and specified science courses as part of the State Minimum Core (SMC). For the B.S.B.A. and B.S.P.A. degrees the College of Business Administration requires the successful completion of MATH 2053 as part of the SMC. If a student submits a SMC which includes mathematics below MATH 2053 (Finite Mathematics), the student must still complete MATH 2053 as a prerequisite for other courses within the degree program.

6Under Arkansas law, every student must pass one of the following courses: PLSC 2003, HIST 2003, or HIST 2013. Accounting majors must take PLSC 2003 and either HIST 2003 or HIST 2013.

7BIOL 1003/1001L is a prerequisite for BIOL 1013/1011L. Students may not receive credit toward graduation for both BIOL 1003/1001L, 1013/1011L and BOTY 1013/1011L/ZOOL 1004. Students may not receive credit toward graduation for both BIOL 1233/1231L and BOTY 1013/1011L or ZOOL 1004. Students who have completed BIOL 1003/1001 or 1013/1011 may not receive credit for BIOL 1233/1231L. Students may not receive credit for BIOL 1233/1231L and BIOL 1003/1001L.

8Credit will not be given for both GEOL 1004 and either GEOL 1113/1111L or 1133/1131L.

9Students who select ECON 2013 and/or ECON 2023 as a social science requirement may increase their general education electives by that number of hours.

10Degree credit may not be earned for both PHIL 1203, Reflective Thinking, and 2203, Logic.

11Pre-business core requirement.

13Remedial Math (MATH 0033) or remedial English (ENGL 0003, commonly known as "X" English) may be necessary if ACT scores are low. Please note that these remedial courses carry no degree credit in the College of Business Administration.

14Computer information systems and quantitative analysis majors should take CISQ 2263 in sophomore year. Students in the computer information systems option and the quantitative analysis option should also take CSCI 1023/1021L in their sophomore year.

JUNIOR AND SENIOR YEARS

Sophomore courses (2000 level) in the B.A. core should be completed by the end of the SOPHOMORE year. Students unable to meet this requirement must remain in the pre-business program and may not enroll in junior- or senior-level courses until eligibility requirements for admission to a major have been met.

Specific major requirements appear on the following pages. Students should discuss the sequencing of courses in their junior and senior years with their assigned departmental academic adviser. Any substitution of required courses in a major field must be approved by the department head who administers the major, and a Course Substitution Petition must be completed and approved by the department head and Associate Dean Undergraduate Studies. All work in the major must be completed in residence.

The senior year's curriculum in business must be taken in residence.

B.S. in Industrial Management Degree (IMGT)

The degree of Bachelor of Science in Industrial Management will be granted upon satisfactory completion of the following curriculum, which totals 129 semester hours. A 2.00 grade-point average in the B.A. core, a 2.00 cumulative G.P.A. and a 2.00 in the engineering/business requirements are required for graduation. In addition, students may not present more than six hours of "D" grades in pre-business core courses. While the course plan, by semester, shown below need not be followed exactly, the flow of course work follows prerequisite course requirements and other generally beneficial sequences. Students deviating from suggested sequences need to assure themselves that all prerequisite course requirements will be met.

17The State Board of Higher Education has granted institutions the authority to require students majoring in business or engineering to take "higher mathematics" and specified science courses as part of the State Minimum Core (SMC). B.S. in Public Administration Degree

Public Administration is a flexible, liberal arts/business degree. This flexibility results from the choice of junior-senior electives (12 hours) from business, economics, or the political science areas. The program adviser can assist in structuring a personalized degree plan with these twelve hours that may enhance a student's future options. Students in this degree program may use their selective choices to take additional course work in political science; to shorten the duration of a graduate program in business administration, public administration, or higher education; to enhance performance in a school of law; or to better manage their own business. (A 2.00 cumulative grade-point average, a 2.00 G.P.A. in the B.A. core and required economics courses, a 2.00 in political science requirements, and no more than six hours of "D" grades in pre-business core courses are requirements for graduation.)
