Courses: Business Law (BLAW)

BLAW2013 Legal Environment of Business (FA, SP, SU) Introduction to the legal environment in which businesses operate. Topics covered in this survey course include: foundations of the American legal system, forms of doing business, employment and labor law, business production and sales, antitrust, and ethics.

Enrollment in junior/senior business courses is contingent upon completion of all course prerequisites.

The following courses are not open to business students until they have completed all Pre-business requirements.

BLAW3033 Commercial Law (FA, SP) A study of the laws applicable to commercial transactions. Topics covered include the common law of contracts, Articles Two (Sales) and Three (Commercial Paper) of the Uniform Commercial Code, secured transactions, suretyship, and bankruptcy. Prerequisite: BLAW 2013.

BLAW3043 Law of Business Organization (FA, SP) A study of the laws applicable to business organizations. Topics covered include partnerships, corporations, property rights, and the regulation of business, including antitrust and employment discrimination. Prerequisite: BLAW 2013.


The following course is restricted to students with graduate standing and requires the consent of the instructor.

BLAW5163 Law of Business (FA, SU) For M.B.A. students and others wishing knowledge of the interface of business values and the legal environment on a functional level. Includes an overview of the court system, litigation, and constitutional law. Also includes contracts, property, torts, government regulation of business, antitrust, business organizations, and consumer law. Emphasis on the political-economic framework and the social responsibility role of business.
