GROWTH HABIT, RATE:
Upright, heavy stems, stoloniferous, irregular and open habit. Not
very many branches.
ADAPTABILITY:
Moist, well-drained soils, acid pH. Does require shelter from winter
wind/sun.
FUNCTIONS:
Border, specimen, massing.
PROBLEMS AND MAINTENANCE:
Suffers scorch in winter in colder zones. Chlorosis often a problem
in high pH soils.

Pacific Northwest

Zones 5-9
SUBSPECIES, VARIETIES, CULTIVARS:
The species exhibits much variation. Some cultivars may be hybrids with Mahonia
repens.
