ADAPTABILITY:
Full sun north, partial shade south. Protection from winter wind. Light,
moist, well-drained soils.
FUNCTIONS:
Foundation plantings, hedges, massing, specimen, rock garden.
PROBLEMS AND MAINTENANCE:
Mite infestations. Black knot and nematodes. Roots are not cold tolerant
and will need mulching in colder zones. Prune when new growth hardens.

Zones 6-9 cultivar dependent
SUBSPECIES, VARIETIES, CULTIVARS:
A tremendous number of cultivars. 'Compacta'- dark green, slightly convex leaves,
compact growth habit, hardier form, male clone; 'Hetzii'- larger form of 'Convexa',
convex large lustrous dark-green leaves, female clone; 'Helleri'- compact form
with smaller leaves.
