GROWTH HABIT, RATE:
Grows taller than wide, with a rounded outline, dense evergreen foliage. To
10-15 feet in height slowly.
ADAPTABILITY:
Acid, moist, well-drained soils with good aeration. In hot summers needs shade,
but does not flower well in full shade.
FUNCTIONS:
Border, screen, naturalizing, specimen.
PROBLEMS AND MAINTENANCE:
An extensive list is presented in Dirr. Need to site carefully in some areas
to protect from winter winds.
NATIVE RANGE:
Southern United States, Virginia to Georgia

Zones 4-7

Numerous cultivars available, see Dirr. R. carolinianum is a related
