GROWTH HABIT, RATE:
Pyramidal when young, oval pyramidal when old, variable.
ADAPTABILITY:
Tolerates difficult conditions, a pioneer species in old fields. Prefers full
sun, moist well drained site but is adaptable to poor soils and varying pH.
FUNCTIONS:
Specimen, screen, massing.
PROBLEMS AND MAINTENANCE:
Mites, bagworms, Juniper blight, an alternate host to cedar apple rust (affects
apples, crabapples and hawthorns).
