Eastern Red-cedar

Flowers: Dioecious, male cones are interesting in late winter.

Foliage: Deep green to silvery blue, primarily scale-like foliage; purplish-brown in winter.

Fruit: Bright blue to gray in color. bloomy (waxy covering on cone). Some female plants fruit profusely.

Trunk, Branching, Twigs: Reddish gray-brown bark exfoliates in long strips.

 

Location: There are many plants on the campus. Large plantings are located around the Chi Omega theatre. My favorite planting is at the southwest corner of the Fine Arts building.
