GROWTH HABIT, RATE:
Slender, pyramidal, columnar when young; irregular, wide spreading with age.
These trees can get very old.
ADAPTABILITY:
Requires acid pH, best in sandy, moist soils. Obviously does well in wet sites.
Adaptable to wet, dry or well drained soils. Excessively dry sites may result
in drought stress.
FUNCTIONS:
Specimen, massing, naturalizing, street tree.
PROBLEMS AND MAINTENANCE:
Twig blight, wood rot-not usually serious.

Southeastern and south central United States, Arkansas native plant
