GROWTH HABIT, RATE:
Shrub or small tree, erect, occasionally spreading, fast growing.
ADAPTABILITY:
Does well in moist soil, best in moist, well-drained soils. Likes hot weather.
FUNCTIONS:
Good for late season color. Border, specimen, hedge or massing.
PROBLEMS AND MAINTENANCE:
Winter kill at northern edge of range, vigorous new growth hides injury quickly.
Prune severely in spring (2-3 buds on stem) for largest flowers. Some cultivars
seed prolifically and seedlings appear everywhere. Use seedless triploids.
