GROWTH HABIT, RATE:
A large shrub (in this area) to a small tree. Arching branches with foliage
confined to the upper half. Fast growing.
ADAPTABILITY:
Full sun, moist well-drained soil, good air circulation.
FUNCTIONS:
Specimen, shrub border.
PROBLEMS AND MAINTENANCE:
In Zones 6 and 7, top growth is killed in the winter and the trunk character
never develops. Powdery mildew and leaf spot disfigure foliage and flower buds.
Poor pruning decisions destroy natural form.
