Spicebush

Flowers: Small yellow flowers, fragrant, in late winter or early spring before the foliage emerges. Dioecious.

Foliage: Elliptical medium green leaves, fragrant when crushed. Yellow fall color.

Fruit: Glossy red fruit on female plants. Ripens in late summer/early fall and is attractive to wildlife.

Trunk, Branching, Twigs: Twigs are spicy-aromatic when crushed.

 

Location: On the north side of the Plant Sciences Building, near the front door.
