Rhus aromatica Ait.
 
Fragrant Sumac

Flowers: Mid April, yellowish catkins on male plants and panicles on female. Male catkins are present in summer, fall and winter and offer a good I.D. clue.

Foliage: Glossy, medium green; excellent fall color-reds, oranges and purples. Leaves aromatic when crushed.

Fruit: Red, hispid berries on female plants in mid to late summer.

 

Location: In the garden adjacent to the east side of the Rosen Alternative Pest Control Center. South end of the garden.
