GROWTH HABIT, RATE:
Rounded to spreading large shrub or small tree. Fast growing.

Full sun. Prefers moist, well-drained soils. Heat tolerant.

No serious insect or disease problems. Can be controlled by pruning to the ground in late winter, as it blooms on new growth. May winter-kill on colder areas.

SUBSPECIES, VARIETIES, CULTIVARS:
'Heterophylla' (V. incisa) is the most cold hardy cultivar.
V. agnus-castus and V. rotundifolia are also used in the landscape.
