GROWTH HABIT, RATE:
Fast growing, rounded to oval form, tends to become irregular with age.
ADAPTABILITY:
Adaptable to most sites and soils. Best in full sun. Does well in wet sites.
FUNCTIONS:
Shade tree, specimen (variegated cultivars).
PROBLEMS AND MAINTENANCE:
Prone to damage from ice storms. Host for box elder bug, which migrates indoors
in the fall. Can spread and self-sow into areas where not desired. Variegated
cultivars will require shade in southern areas.
