GROWTH HABIT, RATE:
Broad, rounded crown, very coarse texture, very fast growing, especially young
suckers.

Very adaptable to most soils. Tolerant of salt and pollution. Makes rapid growth
even in poor soils. Withstand
adverse conditions well
FUNCTIONS:
Shade tree, perhaps only for the most difficult sites in the middle of large
metropolitan areas where nothing else will
grow.
PROBLEMS AND MAINTENANCE:
Suckers readily, colonizes natural areas and excludes native vegetation. Ice
storm and wind storm damage.
NATIVE RANGE:
Northern China, naturalized in the United States and Europe.
