GROWTH HABIT, RATE:
Wider than high to 15 feet, upright, spreading, loose and open.
ADAPTABILITY:
Prefers well drained loamy soil, but adaptable to different soils and pH.
FUNCTIONS:
Accent or focal point, especially the purple form (when pruned). Specimen, border,
massing.
PROBLEMS AND MAINTENANCE:
Pruning is required to maintain intense foliage color in some purple-foliaged
forms.

f. purpureus-purple leaves and panicles. 'Velvet Cloak' velvety rose

bark interest.
