Persimmon

Flowers: Small, yellowish-white, bell-shaped, fragrant, in late spring. Dioecious, although some selections bear both male and female flowers.

Foliage: Dark green, lustrous: yellow, yellow-green or red-purple in the fall.

Fruit: Ping-pong ball sized orange fruit, ripening in the fall, edible if dead ripe.

Trunk, Branching, Twigs: Bark on older specimens is distinctive; blocky, resembling alligator hide.

 

Location: Near the northeast side of the Poultry Science building.
