Flowers: Monoecious, pendulous male catkins in spring.

Foliage: Coarse-textured, pinnately compound leaves. Sticky. Bright green summer foliage, little color change in fall.

Fruit: Large edible nuts in green husks, ripening in the fall. Seeds are oily and become rancid quickly.

Trunk, Branching, Twigs: Light gray bark

 

Location: Horticultural Field Lab, lathe house. Very small plant.
