Flowers: Monoecious, pendulous male catkins in late spring.
Foliage: Coarse-textured, pinnately compound leaves. Bright green summer foliage, little color change in fall.
Fruit: Large edible nuts in green husks, ripening in the fall; when they drop, they can be dangerous.
Trunk, Branching, Twigs: Dark gray-brown bark, thickly ridged, wood is quite valuable.
Location: In between the Law School and the Rosen Alternative Pest Control Center. There is also a large tree on the Old Main mall.
