Seasonal Interest and Photographs

Magnolia acuminata

Cucumbertree Magnolia

Flowers: Blue-green in bud, opening greenish-yellow, cup shaped, in late spring. Because they are so high up on the tree they are difficult to see.

Foliage: Large, deep green leaves, falling with little color change; occasionally yellow-brown. Distinctively coarse texture.

Fruit: Knobby, reddish aggregates of follicles, opening by slits to expose orange seeds.

Trunk, Branching, Twigs: Silvery-gray bark and twigs.

Location: On Meadow Street, near Locust (a beautiful specimen).
