GROWTH HABIT, RATE:
One of the larger oaks. Rounded form, medium growth rate.
ADAPTABILITY:
Well-drained, acidic soils, easier to transplant because no taproot. Somewhat
pollution tolerant.
FUNCTIONS:
Specimen, street tree in large areas. Good for golf courses and the like.
PROBLEMS AND MAINTENANCE:
Few serious problems (in cultivation). Chlorosis in high pH soils. In nature
some diseases and pest can reach epidemic proportions and decimate the species.
