Lacebark Elm

Flowers: Inconspicuous, but opening in late summer, which is unusual.

Foliage: Small, leathery, deep green leaves, remain green late, occasionally turn purplish in fall.

Fruit: Samaras in clusters in autumn.

Trunk, Branching, Twigs: Bark exfoliates in a mottled combination of gray, brown and orange.

 

Location: South of Reid Hall, across Maple street from the Chancellor's house.
