ASSIGNMENT SCHEDULE: ELEMENTARY ANCIENT GREEK I Fall, 2008.

University of Arkansas. Professor Daniel B. Levine.

The textbook FROM ALPHA TO OMEGA: A BEGINNING COURSE IN CLASSICAL GREEK is straightforward and simple. The author, Anne Groton, is a genius. In each chapter grammar explanations accompany a limited vocabulary to be memorized, followed by Greek-to-English and English-to-Greek sentences to be translated.

Beginning in Lesson Five, each chapter includes one of Aesop's fables, with notes to aid in translation.

In addition, students may listen to audio files of all vocabulary and exercises from the text, on line: http://www.leakyroofproductions.com/DataFiles/Groton/GrotonAudioHome.html

Students will complete all exercises in each chapter, and will read (but NOT write translations) of the fable in each chapter.

Students will also complete the assigned "Ancillary Exercises" by Jon Bruss. Many of these exercises will form the basis of much of our class work, and the source of quizlets and quizzes.

Please complete each homework assignment before the class in which it is due. An asterisk (*) indicates that the homework for this class is to be handed in. Homework handed in late will suffer grade penalty of 5%/day.
