Terminology of the Life Sciences

Optional Extra Credit Assignment

 

1. Go to the University of Arkansas Museum and find the display entitled "Hold It!" (on the north wall)

 

2. Look at the whole exhibit, and read all the information contained therein. You might want to bring a flashlight, as it's rather dark in there.

 

3. Type an account of what you find, including:

 

a. A list of the names of at least five different types of vessels, including their names correctly spelled, and their functions (what they were used for).

 

b. A list of the dictionary definitions of the five names.

c. A list of any English words that are relate to these vase shapes, functions, or origins, including the relationship of any of these vase shape names to any words in Taber's Cyclopedia Medical Dictionary. You might have to check different spellings: e.g. "krater" is also spelled "crater". Scyphos and Skyphos, etc.

 

If you cannot find any cognates or derivatives from this display, only give the cognates or derivatives of the ones which you find.

 

If you choose to complete this optional extra credit assignment, you must turn it in by Monday, December 9, 2002.
