1. "Cario and the New World of Aristophanes' Plutus"

by S. Douglas Olson in TRANSACTIONS OF THE AMERICAN PHILOLOGICAL ASSOCIATION 119 (1989) 193-199.

The profound transformation that takes place in the relationship between Chremylus and his sevant Cario has not received careful attention. This is unfortunate, for in the altered relationship between master and slave we have a particularly clear indication of the character of the ideal new Athens, and thus a valuable insight into some of the internal tensions in Athenian society in the early fourth century BC.
