University of Arkansas
The University of Arkansas is the flagship campus of the University of Arkansas System and is the primary land-grant campus in the state. Serving 18,000 students, the University offers a wide range of academic programs in six colleges and the schools of law and architecture. The Fayetteville area (population 68,000) is located in the northwest corner of the state in the Ozark Mountains and is situated in a thriving regional area of approximately 400,000 people.
The area includes many of the advantages of an urban setting while retaining the natural beauty and rural atmosphere which have attracted people to the region. Fayetteville has repeatedly ranked high in Money Magazine’s Best Places to Live in the U.S. Northwest Arkansas is the corporate home to some of the largest employers in the nation such as Wal-Mart, Tyson Foods, and J.B. Hunt Transportation. Many internship, networking, and employment opportunities for M.S. graduates are nearby.
The University of Arkansas is the flagship research university in Arkansas. Graduate students are key members of the Arkansas Agricultural Experiment Station research teams working on critical issues that affect agriculture and related sectors of the economy. The University is a Land Grant university and a member of the Southeastern Conference.
The Department of Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness is part of the Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food and Life Sciences (AFLS) and has about 120 undergraduate majors and 25-30 graduate students. The departmental faculty represent a broad background of training and experience. Other professionals include two post-doctoral researchers, four research specialists, a student recruitment coordinator and a four member computer support group. |
