Center for Farm and Rural Business Finance

The Center is an ongoing targeted research, education, and problem-solving enterprise addressing critical issues in farm and rural business finance. Operated as a cooperative undertaking of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and the University of Arkansas, the Center is prepared to meet the challenges of understanding the changing relationships among farm and rural business and their capital providers — an area that is essential to the prosperity of rural America.

Global Rice Marketing and Policy Research

The purpose of the Global Rice Marketing and Policy Research Program is to provide information and analysis to support public and private decision making related to rice marketing and trade. This research program was established in 1991 by a grant from the U.S. Congress. Baseline projections are the primary focus of the program using the Arkansas Global Rice Model, a framework that provides short- and long-run projections of the international rice economy and analysis of market and trade polices.

MARORA

The MARORA (Modified Arkansas Off-stream Analysis) model was developed in order to help farmers, consultants, and others interested in the water problems of eastern Arkansas to understand the economic impacts of their water investment strategies and management policies. MARORA was written using the Visual C++ programming language, and simulates reservoir and soil water balances, soybean and rice growth and yields, ground water hydraulics, and numerous other processes. Output includes extensive economic accounting of rice and soybean production. MARORA provides the mechanism to examine the economics of various water source and management strategies. The program is flexible in that it is designed to examine individual farm situations. Copies of the program can be obtained by sending a request to jsmartt@uark.edu.
