Biographical Sketch
Derrick M. Oosterhuis, Distinguished Professor of Crop Physiology
in the Department of Crop, Soil and Environmental Science at the University
of Arkansas, earned his B.S. at Natal University in South Africa, his M.S.
at the University of Reading (U.K.), and his Ph.D. at Utah State University.
Dr. Oosterhuis has had 30 years experience as an agronomist/physiologist
and has lectured or worked in 15 countries. Dr. Oosterhuis has taught
eight different courses and advised 21 graduate students. He has over
700 publications, including 110 refereed articles, 370 non-refereed articles,
202 abstracts, 20 book chapters, two books, and has edited 19 proceedings.
His research is in stress physiology and focuses on potassium deficiency,
foliar fertilization, drought and temperature tolerance, and plant growth
regulation. He has served as chair of the CSSA C-2 division and the
statewide Arkansas Cotton Research Group, is advisor to cotton boards in
three countries, and as an member of two UN/FAO committees on growth regulators
and nutrition.
