Introduction to Organic Crop Production (CSES 2012)
Organic crops and organic foods are gaining an important stronghold in
traditional cropping systems and is increasingly important
economically. Students taking Introduction to Organic Crop Production
(CSES 2012) will:
- be introduced to
the
principles of organic agriculture and ecology.
- learn about the
regulations defining organic production and certification.
- consider the role
of crop rotations for pest management and for increasing soil organic
matter.
- discuss
principles of feeding the soil and plant nutrition, soil health, and
green manuring.
- discuss corporate
agriculture and genetically modified organisms.
The course is targeted
for freshmen and sophomore students who may or may not have a strong
background in agriculture.
