Lambda Alpha Honor Society

University of Arkansas - Gamma Chapter

Lambda Alpha is the national honors organization for anthropology. The University of Arkansas chapter of Lambda Alpha is Gamma of Arkansas. Gamma of Arkansas is student run by members holding the offices of President and Vice President. Each year these officers, together with the leadership of the Anthropology Club, organize several academic and social events.

Benefits of Lambda Alpha Membership:

• Membership in a national honors organization is beneficial for your resume. This is a lifetime membership and you may list it among your honors/affiliations indefinitely.

• Members of Lambda Alpha may submit their work for publication in the national journal.

• The National Executive Office provides sizable scholarships each year to two outstanding undergraduate members nationally.

• Members are eligible to purchase the Lambda Alpha Honors stole and/or pin to wear at commencement.

• At least once a year there will be an official induction ceremony for all new members. Current members are encouraged to attend this ceremony as well.

Membership Requirements:

• Membership requirements assume that currently enrolled undergraduate students at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville have completed no less than 9.0 semester hours or the equivalent in academic anthropology.

• Undergraduates must have an average grade point in these courses of no less than a 3.0 and a cumulative grade point average of no less than 2.5.

• Graduate students must have a cumulative grade point of at least 3.25.

• Lifetime membership dues are $25.00 (includes certificate and membership card).

Joining Lambda Alpha:

• Interested students should contact Sarah Horne in the Anthropology Office about getting signed up. Eligible students must fill in a membership card and pay their $25 dues. Upon acceptance from the national office, students will receive their certificate and membership card.
