Ark. Hist. Framework: 3.1.3.
Objective: Students will be able to fill out a census form and compare the
results of previous census reports as well as our class census
results.
Set: Begin with asking students how many of them have a brother, a sister,
live in a house, or an apartment. Explain that the information is
important t the government as well as them.
Materials: census form for each student overhead copy of results previous
census reports from Arkansas outdated census forms to look at.

Census results are used for setting budgets, zoning land, and determining
where schools should be built.

A census is a way for students to help the government.
Activities: Explain to students what a census is used for. Show
students the results previously done census reports. Compare the results
of the census reports using comparison words. Help students to fill out
student census report forms. Tally up class results and discuss.
Closure: Ask students what year will the next census be
done. Ask students what kind of information is in a census report
and what it can be used for.
Assessment: Assessment can be done by teacher observation of class
participation and a review of the student census forms.
