Set: Start with an explanation of what a county is.  Then give important facts about your county.

Materials: books about different counties
paper for taking notes
poster (optional)
map of Arkansas counties
internet access for students

Key Facts: - Every county has a seat.
- The Association of Arkansas Counties was a group formulated to help support Ark. counties and establish cooperation    between counties.

Activities: Show students a map of all of the Arkansas counties.  Depending on the group, either assign or have them pick a county to study.  Discuss various important information you might need to know about a country.  Have each student do a report on his or her designated county.  Doing a poster complete with a county drawing is an option.  Show student various books and internet sights that can be used.  Good requirements would be :
        date established
        county seat
        cities located within
        famous people from
        square miles
        population
        major agriculture
        fairs, celebrations, or festivals

Closure: Have students share what they learned about each county.  Make a board giving facts about each county.  Decide which counties might be a good place to visit.

Assessment: Use a rubric to assess student projects.
