Objective: Students will be able to present information about the daily life of the Caddo Indians of Arkansas to their classmates. Set: Students will be asked to write down what they think the Caddo Indian "Turkey Dance" involves. Then some of the students will share their ideas with the class. Materials: internet, Arkansas text book, papar, pencils, markers Key Terms: thatched houses, communal, cultivate, myths, rituals, sedentary, Key Facts: * Caddo culture was full of rituals. * Myths and stories were an important part of Caddo culture. * Caddo Indians lived in round thatched houses. * Caddo Indians were not only hunters and gathers but also grew crops to survive. * Caddo Indians were the only indians who had access to salt and therefore used it for trade. * The Caddo Indians used myths and stories to teach their values. * The Caddo were known as the round headed people. Activities: After discussing with the students the main aspects of Caddo Indian life, they will be broken into 5 groups. Each of the five groups will be responsibile for finding information about their assignment. The 5 assignments are as follows: dwellings, rituals, food, myths and stories, and community. The students will be given time to research their assignment. The students will put their information in an essay format. They will also be responsible for drawing a picture or diagram for their presentation. Closure: The groups of students will give their presentations. Their essay and pictures will be displayed in the classroom. Assessment: A test will be given to students over all aspects of the daily life of the Caddo Indians of Arkansas.
