Objective: Students will design a travel brochure to persuade others to visit Arkansas, depicting the particular points of interest they decide are the best in the state. 

Set: You, along with other travel agents, have been hired to improve the current materials sent to tourists who are interested in visiting Arkansas. Your assignment is to construct a travel brochure to invite tourists to visit your state. The best brochure created will the one the Arkansas State Department of Tourism will use.  Be prepared to compare your travel brochure with other travel agents.

Materials: Internet webpages
Microsoft Works (or another word processor).
Microsoft Encarta Online Encyclopedia and other computer technology.
Print and non-print sources of information such as pictures, graphics, maps, globes, and artifacts.

Activities: The teacher will guide the class in brainstorming a list of information students feel would be important to know about Arkansas, and places people should visit. Include State Symbols and Basic Facts. Students will gather information about Arkansas using Encarta Encyclopedia, Virtual Globe, their own personal knowledge, and other available information sources. 

Closure: Using the information they have gathered, each student will write informative paragraphs inviting others to visit Arkansas.  They will also include scanned or printed pictures depicting Arkansas's geographic regions, famous landmarks, etc.
