Materials: Copy of the Song "Arkansas" by Eva Ware Barnett

Key Facts: -Arkansas has many meadows, brooks, and streams.
-Rose and magnolias are popular flowers in Arkansas.
-A diamond mine is located in Murpheesboro.
-Crops in Arkansas include rice, cotton, and corn and hay.
-Fruits in Arkansas include apples, peaches, pears, plums,
strawberries, blueberries, and blackberries.
Activities: Discuss background information on Eva Barrett.
Read each stanza of the song orally and explain the meaning of each.
Have students to recite each stanza one at a time.
Define and discuss the key terms and facts and how they relate to the
song.
Have students sing "Arkansas" and other state songs.
Closure: Using the song, have the students list as many possible answers to
the title "Arkansas is the land of...", and then allow them to list other
characteristics of Arkansas.
Assessment: Have students to be able to recite the first stanza and
chorus.
