Objective: Students will discover some of Arkansas's offical symbols

Set: Teacher will show students samples of pine tree cone, flower, gem, instrument, and hive.  She/He will ask students do they know what  each item is and discuss some facts about each item.

Materials: Pictures of official symbols, which makes into a coloring book.
Crayons

Key Terms: Pine tree, apple blossom, diamond, honey bee, fiddle

Key Facts: State bird is the mockingbird
State flower is the apple blossom
State gem is the diamond
State insect is the honeybee
State tree is the pine tree
State instrument is the fiddle

Activities: 1.  Students will learn about Arkansas's state bird, state flower, state gem, state instrument.
2.  Students will then color the symbols and form a book.

Closure: 1. Teacher and students will make a rhyming song using state symbols.
Assessment: 1.  Teacher and students will continue to sing song daily for a week.
2.  A the end of the week teacher will test students orally on Arkansas's symbols through talking or through
     students singing song.
