IV. Reports

A. Report on Grade Distribution

Allan Cochran gave a report on grade distribution at the U of A. In particular he examined what students mark as their expected grade on the Purdue evaluation forms. More than 85% typically mark that they will receive an A or a B. Dr. Cochran examined the data for all undergraduate courses except for labs. He found that the most often given grade at the U of A is an A.

Dr. Cochran reminded us of the U of A policy concerning a Grade of A - it is meant for outstanding achievement to a small number of excellent scholars. B's are awarded for good achievement.

B. Changes in parking at the U of A.

Gary Smith and David Martinson discussed the status of parking at the U of A. In their presentation, they addressed the need to build parking garages on campus to accommodate the Master Plan for parking as developed in 1998. Currently, one garage is under construction behind Kimpel Hall and the BA building. Other garages are also planned for other areas and they are continuing to explore different options. All of this information is based on the assumption that the U of A will have 22,500 students in place by 2010.

Currently, all parking permits are going up in price at the rate of 5% per year. To address the campus parking situation, including rising costs and location of lots, they are also looking for reasonable solutions and dialogue about different approaches or ideas.
