I recommend Robert Nisbet, SOCIOLOGY AS AN ART FORM.  You'll love it.

The politics of the academy do not know disciplinary boundaries.

And us rhetoricians flinch at Dan's use of "just rhetoric."  A phrase
like that employs a trope which employs a spurious enthymeme to cast
doubt on the ethos of a person or thing.  Just rhetoric, indeed.
