Stephen and others, read James Gleick, "Out of Control," in NYT MAGAZINE
May 1, 1994.

The gist is that internet is too far gone to control anyway. At the present
moment I have hardware and software already installed that make me an
internet node. I don't know how to use it yet, but soon, I will become
an address and I will be able to hook others up to me.

With this kind of proliferation, the big companies are learning they are
unable to make money.

I tried AOL for a week (of a month's free trial). It was a horror and I
cancelled. It is a scam. They charge for access for what we have for
free. Sooner or later people will catch on to them and to the freenet
philosophy. And internet may well become a people's communication system,
at least for the middle class.
