ANWARC NEWS |
Kaleidoscope Horse Rescue has
recently been honored by Rescue Network when they were awarded
the first Rescue Of The Week Award. Although it is only a weekly
award, and many will undoubtedly be awarded, we are thrilled to
have been chosen as their first awardee, says Director Amy
Brouillette.

Kaleidoscope
Horse Rescue takes in abused, neglected, displaced equines.
We then rehab, train, and evaluate these equines and find
suitable adoptive homes for them. We also offer resources,
education and information on horse care and current equine
issues to the public. Our 501c3 is pending, and we are
looking forward to some really wonderful events and changes
this coming year. |
We have some nice horses available, and need volunteers to
help us to achieve our potential. Our website,
www.kaleidoscopehorserescue.com has information on us, our
horses, and on how to help in other ways.

achievements ~ dedication to training helped lindsey & doc |

Lindsey
Dillard, age 18, of Greenwood, AR, daughter of Lora Grosvold
and Richard Dillard, with her horse Doc. Lindsey received
Doc on her 13th birthday and started the Parelli method at
age 15. |
|

Doc was once considered untrainable |
I’ve always had a passion for
horses. I had my first pony ride whenever I was eighteen months
old, and ever since then, I’ve been hooked. I went through my
share of ponies, and then horses, but I always dreamed of having
a horse that would want to do anything I asked. The horses I had
would always run the other direction when they saw me with the
halter, but once they were caught, they were usually fine. As I
grew older, all of my ponies and short horses had to be sold. I
missed all of them so much, until I started riding a neighbor’s
horse daily. I got the idea in my head to run for Greenwood
Rodeo Princess and Sweetheart, and before I knew it, I had won
the title, a horse trailer, a saddle, and some cash. The ironic
thing was that I still didn’t have my very own horse to ride. My
parents started searching for a horse, but we couldn’t find the
right one for me. One day, I thought I came across my dream
horse. He was a gorgeous sorrel Quarter Horse that constantly
enjoyed my attention. There was one problem: he was three, and I
was twelve. All of the horses that I had were “dead broke” and
grade horses. He had excellent bloodlines and tons of stamina
and energy, and he was more than I could handle. Someway and
somehow he became my horse. Before I knew it, my dream horse had
soon turned into a nightmare.
Doc would run back if I wanted him to go forward, he reared if I
wanted him to stop, he had no steering, he bucked whenever he
was asked to do something, and he was worse on the ground. He
reared while I was leading him, he ran circles around me, he
would push me and run me over, he ran other horses and people
over, and he always pulled me where he wanted to go. Sometimes
he was frightened when he would do such stunts, but most of the
time it was out of disrespect. Trainers were a temporary
solution. He did fine for two weeks, then he would be worse than
what he was before. It crossed my mind that maybe I should sell
him to someone with more experience, but I was so attached to
him that I just could not bear to see him go. I thought that
retirement at the grand age of five sounded perfect for him, and
he could just be a pasture ornament for the rest of his life.
Luckily, someone told my family that Pat Parelli was having a
seminar in Guthrie, Oklahoma, so we all decided to go in order
to ask him for training advice. We were skeptical at first, but
we decided to give it a try. We came back home with the Level 1
Partnership Kit, and two weeks later, Doc was a different horse.
He was doing everything that I asked, and he had excellent
manners on the ground. His positive attitude soon transferred
into the saddle, and he was just the horse that I needed. I
originally thought that I was going to stop then, but I decided
to pass off my Level 1 skills and progress to Level 2 after
attending the 2002 Savvy Conference in Pagosa Springs, Colorado.
A newly found passion for training naturally soon emerged within
me. I did my 4-H record book about the Parelli system and the
progress that I made. I won the Gene Rainwater Award in
Sebastian County for my work. Doc was also nominated in 2003 for
the $45,000 AQHA/MD Barns Silver Spur Award for outstanding
training. Within around two years, I went from being scared to
death of riding to having confidence and knowing what I was
doing with horses. I went from being disqualified and never
winning at shows to winning blue ribbons. I won tenth place at
the 2002 4-H state horse show in showmanship, and I was the
runner up in halter at the year-end West-Ark Horse Show awards.
I remember when I could not even lead Doc into the show ring due
to his behavior. I realized that it was not Doc at all, it was
all me. I had a complete turn around, not only with horses, but
also with my life. I wanted to pursue my passion of Parelli and
turn it into a career.
Now Doc and I are ready to assess out Level 2, and we have done
some of the Level 3 ground skills. I still show in local shows,
but I have realized that winning is not as important as working
on my principles. I plan to keep working through my levels and
attend Parelli’s Horseman’s University in order to become an
instructor when I am twenty-one. Without Parelli, I would have
never been able to turn my dream of horses into a reality.

2005 Tour |

Located
in central Iowa, (since 1963) in the small town of Eldora,
resides any horse person’s dream…fields filled with colorful
Paint horses! These are the fields that Reisinger Farms
built.
The
main barn has 26 heated stalls, the breeding lab and access to
the indoor arena and offices. |

We are
looking for a breeding/barn manager. We stand seven stallions
and run between 200-300 head. We have over 100 broodmares and
ship a significant amount of semen during the breeding season
to other farms. The majority of our mares are artificially
inseminated. Our veterinarian assists the breeding manager
and works a 3 to 4 day a week schedule on the farm during
breeding season. The manager will have the assistance of
staff, but he/she is responsible for all decisions and
management of the staff (buck stops with the barn manager).
In addition to breeding duties, the manager will also be
involved in nutrition and foaling management.
The last breeding/barn manager we hired lasted close to 25
years so it’s a very comfortable position once the person
grows accustomed to our system. Anyone interested can check
out our website at:
www.ReisingerFarms.com
.

If an individual is interested in training we are comfortable
with that, but the breeding/barn management must be their
first priority. |

Live
Your Dream
Master Horseman
Pat Parelli brings his philosophy and advice on horse training to
Little Rock April 16th and 17th.
The Parelli
Natural Horse*Man*Ship program has captured the hearts, minds and
imaginations of hundreds of thousands of horse enthusiasts
worldwide. On tour in 2005, Pat Parelli brings his phenomenal
program to Little Rock, AR April 16th and 17th (Barton Coliseum,
2401 W Roosevelt Rd, Little Rock). During the two-day seminar,
attendees will witness the extraordinary relationships that can be
formed between horses and humans and the transformations that
result. Anyone attending a Parelli seminar who is a horse owner or
horse admirer, and sees the fabulous relationship between Pat, his
students, and their horses, will most certainly discover their own
potential to change their relationship with their horse. In
addition, anyone who studies this program will come away from it
better parents, better friends, and better people.
Tickets are available at
www.parelli.com
. Tickets are $65 in advance, with groups of 10 or more receiving
an advance price of $35. Tickets are $100 at the door. Pony Club,
4-H Club and FFA members and their leaders are eligible for free
admission, as the guests of Pat and Linda Parelli. At least 10
days in advance of the seminar, these groups should send a fax to
970-731-9763 on organization letterhead, with the organization
name and the number of members and leaders attending the seminar,
and then show their affiliation at the door.
This amazing seminar, fresh and new for 2005, is designed to be a
total experience, answering a thousand questions in the horse
owners mind. After all, as Pat says Its not about what I can do
with horses. Its about what I can teach you to do with horses! Day
One begins with student demonstrations, then the morning session
shows the Possibility of Change, demonstrated by two horses with
typical and unusual problems. In the afternoon session, learn the
Secrets of Success how to develop horses and how to develop
people. Then, gain valuable insight by watching Pat and his wife,
Linda, training themselves and their horses. Day Two begins with
student playtime, and fun with horses. The morning session then
covers the latest developments in the philosophy of natural
horsemanship and understanding relationships with horses at a much
deeper level. The afternoon continues with breakthrough concepts
in riding and learning how to become one with the horse, and ends
with learning how to have more fun with horses, beyond arena
drills and aimless riding sessions.
Students will come away from the Parelli Natural Horse*Man*Ship
program knowing how to develop their horse, how to ride like they
are truly one with the animal, and how to continue and get even
more results at home. We all got into horses because of a
dream…to ride as one, to have a special friend, or to win, to
excel, and to find a part of ourselves that is brought out when we
are with our horse says Pat…and thats exactly what his programs
provides!
