riding lessons, Shannon also breeds high quality Arabians, known
for their gentle dispositions.

Sunrise Therapeutic Services
Incorporated (Sunrise Riders) is a horseback-riding center
located in Greenbrier, Arkansas. We are equipped for english,
western, and therapeutic horseback riding. Our main focus is
therapeutic riding. We make horse experiences available to all
through specially trained staff, volunteers, horses, specialized
safety equipment, and wheelchair mounting ramps. Our center is a
place where children and adults ages 2 to 82+ can have fun by
engaging in rewarding activities with horses and many other farm
animals in a setting of acceptance and respect. Sunrise
Therapeutic Services Incorporated is a non-profit corporation.
Sunrise Riders teaches both traditional and
therapeutic lessons with the traditional riders acting as
volunteers for the program. Everyone who works for the program
is a volunteer. In fact, there would not be a program without
the help and dedication of the volunteer staff. In addition to
our riders, we provide opportunities for
Girl Scout Troops,
Cub Scout Dens, 4-H groups, and church youth groups to earn
horsemanship badges and achieve goals related to our horse
program.
How can you help?
Participate in Ride-a-thons,
donations of supplies, equipment or horses, cash, feed or other
items, volunteer, sponsor a therapy horse, or provide
maintenance. The opportunities to participate in this
valued program are vast ~ if you feel you may be able to share

Vesicular Stomatitis (VS)
Confirmed in West Texas; First U.S. Case Since l998 |
The
country’s first case of Vesicular Stomatitis (VS) since 1998 was
confirmed Wednesday, May 19, on a premise with nine horses and
eight head of cattle near Balmorhea, in Reeves County in west
Texas. VS is a viral disease that occurs sporadically in the
U.S., usually in southwestern states. The disease can affect
horses, cattle and pigs, and occasionally, sheep, goats and
deer, causing blisters to form in the animal’s mouth, on teats
or along the hooves, resulting in excessive salivation, lameness
or oozing sores.
The clinical signs of VS can cause concern because they mimic
those of a highly contagious foreign animal infectionfoot-and-mouth
disease (FMD)which has been eradicated in the U.S. since 1929.
Laboratory tests must be run to differentiate between the two
diseases, when cattle, pigs, sheep or other cloven-hooved
animals develop signs of the disease. Unlike FMD, VS also can
affect horses and other members of the equine family. Although
the disease does not affect food safety, infected livestock are
withheld from slaughter until they recover.
