Arkansas Based Equine Rescue - Cushman

Wizard - foaled in April at Ozland.

Located in North Central Arkansas, at the foot of the Ozarks, we are dedicated to saving horses from starvation and abuse,  and buy horses from sales that would otherwise go to slaughter. We will take in any unwanted horse, including race horses in danger of being put down. It is also our goal to rescue and place as many PMU foals as possible with whatever funds we can get. It costs between $500 and $800 for each foal rescued.

OZLAND HORSE RESCUE
We are here to take in any abused, neglected, or just plain old horse that needs our loving care. If we can rehabilitate them, they are carefully adopted out to new homes. The new "parents" must fill out an adoption form stating that they will provide proper and loving care for their new charge, and we DO make home visits on a regular basis to make sure it is done properly. If they are unable to be useful in any way, then they are provided with a proper retirement home to the end of their days. We make sure those are happy days. We also use donations to save as many from "kill" buyers as possible. This takes a lot because kill prices are up due to the European horsemeat market. We need your help on this one. Thousands of horses go to slaughter every week in this country.

Arkansas Based Equine Rescue - Pea Ridge

TINY TIMBERS HORSE RESCUE
We are a privately funded horse rescue.  Our mission is to save as many horses as we can from abuse and neglect, and to provide a home to all equines that need one!  We aim to educate the public on proper horse care and issues involving equines.

Pumpkin, 15 years old.

Every year thousands of equines are euthanized simply because their owners have decided the horse is no longer useful, maybe its due to the horse's age, physical problems or the owner is no longer able to deal with the problems that come with older equines or equines with medical conditions. The reasons are unlimited. We at Tiny Timbers would like to offer these owners a humane alternative. If you have a horse like this or know someone who does, think of us and give that horse a second chance. We will provide a good loving home with all their special needs being met until the end of their lives.

If you have an old friend, companion, or "equine child" you no longer can keep for whatever reason, think of donating your equine to Tiny Timbers Horse Rescue. We can guarantee your horse medical care, food, shelter and a loving home for the rest of their lives.

Horse Slaughter Bill

ANIMAL ADVOCATES DEFEAT TEXAS BILL TO LEGALIZE HORSE SLAUGHTER INDUSTRY
Animal advocates have defeated multiple attempts to legalize the Texas horse slaughter industry.  Of course, the battle is not yet over in Texas.  Despite efforts by District Attorneys to prosecute the two slaughter houses (Beltex and Dallas Crown) under state law, the plants continue to operate under a court-granted injunction. The case now rests with a federal judge who must determine if the District Attorneys have the authority to prosecute (the slaughter houses argue that federal law - which allows horse slaughter - supersedes Texas law).

Texas is home to the two remaining horse slaughter houses in the United States. Both are foreign owned, and the meat is shipped to Europe and Asia where it is considered a delicacy.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture statistics show that in the U.S. last year 42,312 equines were slaughtered at foreign-owned slaughterhouses for consumption abroad. Tens of thousands more were shipped live to Canada for slaughter there.
